Victoria is called the City of Gardens due to its mild climate year round, but in the summer it truly earns this nickname. Everywhere you look there are annuals, perennials, flowering vines, bushes and trees.
The endangered southern resident orca population around Vancouver Island has recently had a baby boom – four new calves have been spotted in the past month.
For a number of years the Empress Hotel has decorated one of its side gardens with an orca topiary – the image captured here is special as we've not seen a 'water being blown out of the blowhole' addition in a number of years. This image also captures Victoria's trademark hanging flower baskets (on the lamppost to the right), which appear at the beginning of summer and stay up until the end of September.
