Some places have one castle, others like Victoria have two. But Victoria had no kings. Craigdarroch Castle is known as a 'bonanza castle' – massive houses built for entrepreneurs who gained their wealth during the industrial age. The industrialist in this case is Robert Dunsmuir, who actually built both castles in Victoria.

Built between 1897 and 1890, it has been a family residence, a hotel, a military hospital, the home of Victoria College (an affiliate of McGill University in Montreal), a music conservatory and now a museum.

There is something about a castle at night that adds an element of spooky. All this image needs is a ghostly apparition on the upper walkway.
