grand old lady

The Empress was built by Canadian Pacific as a terminus hotel for its steamship line. It was built between 1904 and 1908. Story has it that for many years there wasn't a sign over the front entrance with many believing that if you didn't know the building was The Empress, you shouldn't be staying there.

The sign is now ensconced within the vines of ivy that clad its regal exterior.
