Sombrio Beach is part of the Juan de Fuca Marine Trail, a coastal wilderness hiking trail, along the southwestern coast of Vancouver Island. Sombrio is one of the beaches that is very popular with day trippers and surfers, as there is direct access to this beach. It is a lovely, wide sandy beach with a hidden waterfall in a moss covered canyon, carved in the sandstone from thousands of years of water falling. If you didn't know to look for it, you'd never expect to find such a beautiful place here. We didn't know about it in advance, and the discovery while exploring our camp home for the next few days was a wonderful happenstance.
