The Ruckle homestead was established in 1872 on Salt Spring Island. In 1972 the family donated their land to BC Parks, but the family still lives and operates the active farm on the land through a life tenancy agreement.

This image is a good representation the agricultural base of the island, though the island is more commonly known now for its artists.
